Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson thought lunch was free and that taxpayers should foot the bill, but ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Now he has to pay back the cost of those free lunches, plus a $15,000 fine levied by the City Conflicts of Interest Board. To add insult to injury, Thompson ordered his private security to get his lunch and to pay for it out of their own pockets.
The cost of those lunches totaled $5,500 and occurred between January 2014 and May 2015. The cops were repaid not by Ken, but with taxpayer dollars. According to a news source, he was using official security detail as his personal errand boys. I guess we know who pays for that.
Remember, no one is above the law, and I'm wondering why he still has a job. If anyone else did the same in the private sector, they would be fired and possibly sent to jail.
