The Queens College women’s basketball team placed 18th in the WBCA NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Knights received 182 total points on the ledger.

A season ago, under the direction of head coach Bet Naumovski, the Knights won the East Coast Conference Championship for the second consecutive season, finishing with a record of 21-9.

Queens earned the fourth seed in the East Region of the NCAA Division II National Tournament and advanced to the second round.

The Knights return seven players from last season’s roster, and welcome six new additions.

Leading the charge for QC is senior Madison Rowland, the Preseason ECC Player of the Year.

Rowland averaged 20.8 ppg, tops in the ECC and eighth in the country, along with 9.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game last season.

Her 4.4 steals per game led both the ECC and the country for the third straight season.

Senior MacKenzie Rowland averaged 13.7 points per game, and averaged a double-double, with her 10.9 boards per outing last season.

Additionally, the Knights return junior Merrick Rowland (4.8 ppg/40.0 3FG pct.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Mahon of Middle Village (3.4 apg/4.7 pgg).

The WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches’ Poll Committee is made up of 24 head coaches at NCAA Division II institutions — one from each conference.

QC opens the 2016-17 campaign Saturday, November 12 against Southern Connecticut State at 2 p.m.
