Digging for info on a groundbreaking

We spent our holiday weekend recovering from our turkey hangover digging through the paper's archives and came across this photo we thought we would share with you.

Obviously, it's a groundbreaking and at the heart of it all is former Queens borough president Donald Manes, one of the most tragic figures in recent New York City political history. (If you don't know his story by now, you should hop on the old Inter-Web and do some digging.)

But back to the photo, which obviously shows a groundbreaking on Myrtle Avenue with members of the Myrtle Avenue Local Development Corporation, which perhaps was a precursor to the Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District?

Beyond that, we don't recognize too many other people in the photo, and we're obviously not sure what improvements they were breaking ground on.

If you can help fill in the details or identify some of the other people in the photo, send us an email at polposition@queensledger.com.
