Hundreds of foodies enjoyed the tastes and sounds of food, drinks and music at the 7th annual Taste of Sunnyside last Tuesday.

Nearly 30 local restaurants and breweries participated in the neighborhood festival. Inside a large tent set up underneath the 7 train at Bliss Plaza, attendees tasted samples of the different cuisines, snacks or beverage that each eatery offered.

Dozens of volunteers from LaGuardia Community College also helped out at the event on Queens Boulevard. They were all students of a travel, tourism and hospitality management class taught by James Giordano.

The students kept a running journal about the festival’s venue, setup, registration process, speakers and budget.

“They start to realize all the details behind an event,” Giordano said. “What worked well? What would you do different?”

The class also helps out at the annual Taste of Queens event. The partnership with Sunnyside Shines has gone on for five years.

“It’s great that we have this opportunity to have hands-on participation, to be in the local community,” Giordano said. “And it’s just up the street from us. It makes the connection real.”
