The Queens Council on the Arts is looking to help you with your next creative project.

If you have any interest in organizing an arts or music festival, putting on a dance, performance, theater or working with local artists in the community, QCA wants to help fund the project.

The 2018 Queens Art Fund will go towards projects based in Queens that offer distinct cultural programs for the community by individual artists, collectives, artist-nonprofit partnerships and nonprofit organizations. The grants range from $1,000 to $5,000.

There are several grants under the 2018 Queens Art Fund including the Community Arts Grant, Arts Access Grant, New Works Grant, and Community Engagement Commissioning. According to the QCA, the funds cover costs for eligible projects such as projects with a public component that would benefit communities, activities taking place in Queens in 2018, and individual artists' costs needed for the execution of a cultural project.

While the deadline for applications is October 26, there are still some important dates to remember.

First-time applicants and applicants who have not applied in two years must attend an Application Information Session either through an informational group session or a one-on-one meeting with a QCA staff member. The next group informational session will be held on Wednesday, August 23 at the Flushing Library (41-17 Main Street) from 6 pm - 8 pm. To sign up for a 20-minute one-on-one meeting, visit www.queenscouncilarts.org/qaf/ and come prepared with a draft proposal and questions about the application. One-on-one meetings are taking place at QCA (37-11 35th Avenue in Astoria) between 11 am and 4 pm on Friday, August 11 and Tuesday, August 29.

QAF grant applications are reviewed by a select panel of members within the arts community. In order to ensure applicants have the most competitive application possible, QCA stated that there will be an Application Information Session throughout the borough through October 11th.

If you’re interested in the grants and have questions, visit the QCA web site, www.queenscouncilarts.org, or contact Lynn Lobell, Grants and Resource Director, at llobell@queenscouncilarts.org or 347.505.3015.
