Dear Editor,

While in Glen Oaks Village shopping the other day, an aggressive panhandler asked me for money and wouldn't take no for an answer. Luckily, a security guard was walking by and the man left.

A few months ago, the same thing happened to my wife and I. He followed us into a card shop asking for money, and the owner told him to leave.

I have been told by many different residents of Glen Oaks Village that this happens a lot. According to them, many of these people have mental health issues and come from Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens Village.

I'm a senior citizen and worry they may snap because they don't get money and go on the attack. I believe many seniors feel as I do.

If you are worried about the situation, contact your local representatives and express your concerns. This is a dangerous situation that affects all of us in the community and something must be done soon.

Sincerely,

Frederick R. Bedell, Jr.

Glen Oaks Village
