Queens College dominates two-day meet

The Queens College track and field teams competed both at home and on the road this weekend with the two-day Queensborough Relays on the Queens College campus and in Bayside at Queensborough Community College.

The Knights were dominant both days as the teams geared up for the East Coast Conference championships on Saturday.

In the throwing competitions on Friday, Brandon McCray claimed a second-place finish in the men’s shot put with a throw of 12.00 meters as

Andrew Saulpaugh had an incredible toss in the hammer throw, finishing in second place with a toss of 51.60 meters.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Williams had a strong performance on the women’s side, as she won the hammer throw (37.40m) and took seventh in the shot put with an 8.60 meter toss.

On Saturday, Lenz St’Vil was victorious in the 100-meter dash on the men’s side, crossing the line in a time of 11.03 seconds.

Pablo Hernandez also had a strong day with a victory in the 1500-meter run, cutting the tape in a time of 4:19.94, while Clivensky Etienne posted a 10,000-meter winning time of 35:24.93 to claim first place by nearly 90 seconds.

The Knights also claimed two relay victories on the men’s side in the 4x100-meter relay (44.37s) and the 4x800m (9:07.74). Pavan Bhat also claimed a victory in the men’s high jump with a leap of 1.90 meters.

In the women’s field, Diana Cruz posted a winning time in the 400-meter run of 58.61 seconds, the only runner to finish in under one minute.

The women’s 4x400-meter relay squad won in that discipline with a finish of 4:17.42.
