Following stellar 2019 campaigns that saw them garner Big East Pitcher of the Year and Co-Freshman of the Year awards, respectively, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named Madison Morris and Peyton Cody to the Division I All-Great Lakes Region Third Team on Thursday.

Morris capped off her final season with the Red Storm by posting career highs in wins (18), strikeouts (178) and innings pitched (176).

The senior also recorded six games with 10 or more strikeouts, including a program-tying 15 punch-outs against FAU on February 8.

The Johnnies’ ace registered the 400th strikeout of her career in her final game at Red Storm Field against Villanova on April 28.

Morris led the Big East during league play, posting an undefeated 11-0 record with 85 strikeouts and the second-lowest ERA at 2.23. Morris also held opposing lineups to a .226 batting average through her 13 conference appearances.

Cody garnered the Third Team’s designated player/utility position after a stellar rookie campaign highlighted by a pair of Big East accolades that included conference Co-Freshman of the Year and an All-Big East First Team selection.

She was dangerous at the dish in 46 appearances, posting 51 hits, 31 runs scored and a team-leading 45 RBIs, one shy of tying the freshman record (46). She also rode a 19-game hitting streak through the middle of the season, recording a base knock in 12 more contests than the next best mark (7).

Morris and Cody are two of the five Big East players to be recognized by the NFCA and earn a spot on the 2019 NFCA Division I All-Region Teams.
