Vassallo Trading started their play-off run with the same Non-stop tenacity they exhibited all season long. In the quarterfinals against D’Arienzo Funeral Home Anthony Santino the team’s catcher, set Vassallo’s defensive tone early by throwing out runners at second and third in the first inning of the opening game. His battery-Mate Lukas Burton threw a no-hitter with blinding speed and helped his own efforts with key base-hits in securing the opening victory.

The strong defense continued in the second game on June 27th. In the first inning, Santino threw behind a runner at at first and “Buckey” Stephen McDonald applied the tag for the out.

Santino provided offense as well, following an Issaih Gonzalez walk with an opposite field double, which scored two runs. Vassallo went on to cruise to victory, setting up a championship show down with Rozza Plumbing.

In the first game of the World Series, Vassallo Trading took a seemingly comfortable 10 to 0 lead into the fifth inning, but Rozza Plumbing fought, narrowly losing 11-10.

Vassallo came out on fire in the second game on Wednesday, July 1st. Rocco Loguercio got things started, hittng a grand slam to give Vassallo Trading a 4-0 lead and the offensive momentum that they needed to complete the season’s mission.

With a lead in hand, all eyes in the ball park were glued on Lukas Burton as he proceeded to toss his third no-hitter in the playoffs. Burton was also a factor at the plate, as Rozza Plumbing’s strategy to intentionally walk Burton every time up backfired completely. Lukas focused completely on his pitching placement, with such blinding movement that had Rozza Plumbing down 14 to 0 when Burton was removed in the 5th inning after throwing his 85th pitch. Vassallo Trading won the game 14 to 1 and captured the Greenpoint Little League World Series.

Congrats to Vassallo Trading, the Greenpoint Little League World Series champions!
