The Glendale Kiwanis Club (a frightening but fun fraternal group of about 50 adults who meet every week at Zum Stammtisch – a Glendale restaurant that is a bit overrated, but it’s still German and still fairly crowded) apparently was allocated $3,500 from Councilman Anthony Como, who was a member of the club and won a special election and represented the 30th for about six months.
After Liz won the election last November and while she was working on getting her feet wet, the club’s got caught up in a bureaucratic mess. This week, Como cried foul, but Liz says she didn’t really mean to do it (even though Como happened to be a member of the club).
And Como says his letter, which was distributed to news organizations across the borough of Queens by a well-known political operative, wasn't some poorly disguised attempt to take a political potshot at Liz Crowley on behalf of Tom Ognibene, even if the timing was a little dubious.
Well, all was apparently made good this week, as Liz sent those rubber stamp members of our staff her discretionary funds allocation and the Glendale Kiwanis Club got their $3,500 for last year plus another $5,000 for this year.
