On the Royal’s first offensive play of the game, running back William Hunter took the ball 85 yards from scrimmage to score a touchdown. Hunter later said the play “got the whole team hyped and everyone’s confidence was high.” It certainly set the tone of the game and that is why Hunter is this week’s athlete of the week.
Hunter, a native of Queens, was dominant on the football field. “The offensive line stepped up and started blocking. I was able to see the openings,” he said. Hunter carried the ball five times for a total of 155 yards and scored two touchdowns. Hunter’s performance came as no surprise to Royal’s Coach Chris Higgins. “Will did everything that I thought he could do,” Higgins said.
A senior in high school, Hunter is in the process of looking at schools to further his career in football. His top three choices are the University of Connecticut, Bucknell University, and Penn State. When asked about his future in football, Coach Higgins said, “He’s a leader in every facet of the word. He’s a great athlete, coachable and has excellent knowledge in his sport.”
Congratulations to this week’s athlete of the week, William Hunter.
