For now, central Queens residents hoping for new open space might have to settle on Elmhurst Park, the $20 million park being built on 57th Avenue.

The construction of phase two at the park, home for years to a gas tank facility, began this past August and has continued through the fall.

The completed design plans include lawns, a playground and, maybe, a veterans memorial.

The design builds on an already-finished phase one design that significantly altered the site’s topography, creating rolling hills and veritable mini-forests through the planting of nearly 500 new trees.

Now, construction workers at the site can be seen hard at work on the playground and other amenities.

According to the Parks Department, a comfort station planned for the third and final stage of construction is still being designed.
