The World Series traditionally marks the end of the baseball season. But not for the Aces of Queens. For them, it’s only just the beginning.

Just this past Sunday in Glendale at Seither Stadium, The RGMVM Aces were busy conducting tryouts and evaluations for the 2010 season. The league is composed of six teams of boys ranging in age from six to fifteen years old.

Due to the hard work and success of Ace coaches and parent volunteers, they expect to expand to nine teams by 2010. Girls interested in soft ball, let the Aces know who you are, because come Spring The RGMVM Aces are branching out.

The league keeps the kids active all year round. With games and tournaments being played in Long Island, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Upstate New York. It is a busy season spring, summer, and fall. And, there are winter workouts that are open to everyone. As Coach Steve Adams says, “we don’t turn anyone way. “We try to encourage, not discourage here. We had ninety-two kids this year and expect one hundred fifty in 2010. It was a great year”.

One of the goals of the league is not only to develop competitive teams, but also to nurture the kids as they grow. “The boys had to adjust to longer bases and further pitching distances then they have ever played before. They also had to face all star pitching each time they took the field. However, they seem to grow more comfortable as the season went along,” said Coach Steve Camus who along with Coach Jay Seely brought home the NY Travel Fall Season Championship.

“Our goal is to give any kid who wants to play baseball or softball on a competitive level the opportunity,” said Coach Dennis Mulvena. Seeing the hardworking and dedicated coaches out there today this was just one day out the field. One can imagine what it would be like year round. Coach Abad Nieves had pointed out that for the most part the league was community based, and that kids can be role models for kids. “Kids like Austin who is a good student and plays well, is someone the other kids can emulate and look up to, and say wow look at that!” There’s camaraderie at these games and you can see it.  Coaches are dedicated to these kids as mentors and cultivating their talents  “hopefully keeping them out of trouble” added, Coach Abad Nieves.

The Aces is not only for kids and baseball.  It is for community. You can be a part of a team by watching the games, volunteering, being part of a fundraising event, or becoming a sponsor for these children. For more information, step up to the plate and go to www.rgmvmacesbaseball.com.
