A longtime Maspeth resident who was a ubiquitous figure on Grand Avenue had to be rushed to the emergency room on December 19.

Tommy Dowd, 48, was admitted to Elmhurst General Hospital just after 11:30 p.m. for undisclosed reasons. According to a hospital spokesperson, Dowd was in stable condition in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit.

Dowd was a well-liked figure in the community, and news that he suffered a health setback prompted rumors of his death and frantic, worried calls to the offices of the Queens Ledger looking for information.
