Our home, Woodhaven, is so very fortunate that we have the support and funding from the best elected officials in our borough, New York City, New York State, and federal levels. If it weren’t for these excellent representatives, old and new, Woodhaven would not be Woodhaven.
Thinking back to our Christmas Tree (which was decorated with patriotic red, white and blue lights in honor of our armed forces), did you see the beautiful handmade decorations by our local school children? They were from the Schools of St. Elizabeth, St. Thomas the Apostle School, P.S. 60, P.S. 66, and St. Luke’s Nursery School.
These decorations also graced the Avenue Diner’s Christmas Tree and were part of New Pop’s Restaurant’s Christmas decorations and the Forest Parkway Plaza bushes. It always is so great to see the children telling their moms and dads, “See my decoration?” Look at them now, for they will be removed as soon as the weather is warm.
Yes, our Woodhaven is maintained and stable because of the hardworking Woodhaven leaders and organizations working with our great elected officials to improve all of our community. We are very fortunate for our business owners and store owners on Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue from Dexter Court to 100th Street who contribute and support our Woodhaven Business Improvement District, which gives so much to our Jamaica Avenue.
We have a great selection of stores and businesses, Papa John’s Pizzeria, and the new King of Queens Coffee and Pastry Shop. So shop locally and support all those who support us. The residents of Woodhaven should shop our stores; there are many bargains and savings in the after-holiday shopping season! Also, have your taxes prepared and buy your insurance locally, for all of this maintains our Woodhaven as a strong, viable, and stable community that has it all.
Some important information for you! Senior citizens, you may qualify for free or lower energy bills through the WRAP Program. Did you know we have brand new condominiums available in Woodhaven? Yep, right on 90th Street north of Jamaica Avenue. Check them out, call (917) 682-7576 and speak to Jack. Also, take a look at www.projectwoodhaven.com for all of Woodhaven news; as well as www.forgottenny.com/neighborhood/woodhaven.html.
Still included on www.projectwoodhaven.com is the Assemblyman Michael Miller’s press conference regarding the proposed elimination of the Z Train on our elevated J Line and the Q56 Jamaica Avenue bus. The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation and the Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association have letters that you can sign and mail to the MTA. Please pick them up at our offices. We need your help to railroad these ill-thought MTA proposals. We fight again, and as before we will win!
The Woodhaven community has many residents that are notable. Some are Army Reserve Specialist Mohammad Z. Alam, who recently graduated from Combat Training; on the Berkeley College President’s List, Geraldine Alberto and Patrick Gargano, and on the Dean’s List, Llicel Rodriguez; and New York National Guard recognized officers, Staff Sergeant George Ruiz and re-enlisted Specialist Eduardo Garcia. You all make Woodhaven proud!
At this time, when we are at war against evil terrorists, may God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces and coalition forces and most of all may God bless our America!
