I understand you’re new to the area, Kiwally. Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born down under and I’m an aborigine from Australia. I arrived in the US and made my way to Maspeth.

Maspeth? Really? Why?

Because it’s the greatest town with the greatest Kiwanis in the U.S.

You’re affiliated with the Maspeth Kiwanis?

I am their promotional and children’s liaison and first ever mascot.

What does the word Kiwani mean, and what are those guys about anyway?

Kiwani means to share, and that’s what we do. We share our talents with the world.

What exactly is your job with them?

To bring happiness and joy to the children of the world, starting with the children of Maspeth.

How will you be doing that?

By attending meetings, the annual auction in April, and the Memorial Day parade, where I will be marching. I also attend meetings for the junior Kiwanis divisions, such as K Kids, Builders and Key Clubs.

Sounds like you’ve got a full plate there. Any personal goals?

My future plans are to settle down in Maspeth and start a family.

Interesting. Any plans for the holidays?

I’m helping to feed the needy by giving out baskets and will also be making an appearance at the Maspeth Town Hall at the Kiwanis Holiday Party, where I will be singing to children and handing out lollipops.
