Best of all, much of what’s on tap in the Festival’s signature community events is free! Just as in the movies, all you have to do is show up!
For starters, there’s the Tribeca Drive-In from April 22 through April 24. This year’s outdoor screening series will feature the world premiere of two new documentaries: ESPN Films’ The Birth of Big Air and HBO’s El Espiritu de la Salsa (“The Spirit of Salsa”), along with a special screening of the much-loved family comedy Big, presented courtesy of 20th Century Fox, heralding the studio’s 75th anniversary.
Interactive fun - BMX demos, salsa dancing, and carnival games - will immediately precede each screening.
If a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at the challenges and triumphs of movie-making is your dream double-feature then the returning free series of panels is custom-made for you.
“Tribeca Talks: Pen to Paper,” hosted by Barnes & Noble and Tribeca Talks: Industry, will take place from April 21 through May 2.
An A-List of Festival sponsorship lined up for the 2010 Festival are a multi-faceted group of brands and organizations dedicated to supporting the Festival, filmmakers, and the community. This year’s Festival has attracted over 58 top-tier brands and welcomes news partners including LG Electronics USA, Polaroid, smartwater, Caesars Atlantic City, and Time Warner Cable who expand the Festival’s audience and support the Festival’s filmmakers.
The Tribeca Festival has screened over 1100 films from over 80 countries since its first festival in 2002. Since its founding, it has attracted an international audience of more than 2.3 million attendees and has generated an estimated $600 million in economic activity for New York City.
Jane Rosenthal, the Festival’s co-founder, said, “Our free community events are the heartbeat of our Festival, which was created to bring people and business back downtown through a mix of film and events in our neighborhood. We look forward to once again highlighting all that Tribeca has to offer.”
