The self-titled release from Brooklyn's White Hills (out now on Thrill Jockey)is a fuzzed-out and meandering album that recalls the exploratory psychedelic sludge of Hawkwind, full of sonic texture and improvisation. For instance, check out the single “Dead,” which features Oneida's Kid Millions on drums. Midway through the recording, Kid drops a drumstick but bravely soldiers on, and what happens next was so impressive that “the mistake” made it onto the album. White Hills is a collection of songs that are at turns loud and raging and the next quiet and contemplative, but all of them are vast.

At its core, White Hills is the duo of Dave W. on guitar and Ego Sensation on bass, with a rotating cast of peripheral members that keeps the music fresh and ever-evolving. Dave, Ego, and whoever else shows up will be playing Lit Lounge, 93 Second Avenue, on Wednesday, April 28.
