Queens residents have a new place to work off their Black Friday stuffing and yam guilt thanks to two couples with a passion for fitness.

Mike Romer and Vinny Ruddy and their wives Maria and Kristen held a grand opening of their new gym, the Force Fitness Club, located at 63-03 Fresh Pond Road, on November 15.

The gym was met with enthusiasm by locals, scoring more than 300 memberships in its first week of business.

Romer credits the excitement to the gym’s cutting-edge equipment, as well as its mixed martial arts program featuring a blend of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing and kickboxing.

The gym also features a variety of group exercise classes such as spin, yoga, step aerobics, body sculpting, and Bollywood dancing for those who like to mix up their workout.

But fearful newbies shouldn’t be shy: this gym is for them as much as for the seasoned fitness enthusiast.

“I put together a club where you can be the newest beginner - I have trainers for that - or you can be an elite athlete and come here and get your workout,” said Romer.

Romer also said his equipment collection, which features more than 30 cardio machines, treadmills, elliptical machines, and bikes, is easy to use.

At 10,000 square feet, Romer said his facility is “just big enough to house everyone.”

Romer said he became friends with Ruddy when they worked out together at the Ridgewood YMCA, where Romer was a personal trainer.

Ruddy is a FDNY firefighter by day and was selected as Mr. November for the Department’s notorious beefcake calendar this year.

After Romer lost his job when the Y closed, he was unsure of his future but knew he wanted to pursue a career in fitness.

“When the YMCA closed last year I just did personal training while figuring out what I wanted to do,” he said. “I started off by wanting to open up a personal training studio then it moved into a personal training studio plus mixed martial arts then evolved into a full fitness studio.”

While the duo is pleased with the success of Force, they are looking toward the future.

In the future, the gym hopes to add more equipment and classes. Also in the works is an outdoor area where bodybuilders can pull 300-pound tractor tires and a supplement station.
